With the approach of the holy month of Ramadan, consumer behaviors are noticeably shifting towards more online shopping, altered shopping hours, a keen eye for deals, and a greater openness to trying new products, as highlighted in recent findings by GoDaddy.

Selina Bieber, GoDaddy’s Vice President for International Markets, emphasizes the importance of understanding these consumer shifts for businesses aiming to leverage the unique sales opportunities during this Ramadan. She advises businesses to adapt their strategies to resonate with cultural nuances and changing consumer preferences to thrive during this period.

Key consumer behavior changes during Ramadan include:

Enhanced Online Shopping: The guide notes that with the adoption of shorter working hours, consumers find themselves with limited time to visit physical stores before breaking their fast, leading to a spike in online shopping activities.

Google’s data from 2022 highlights a significant 61 percent increase in e-commerce sales in the UAE during Ramadan.

Changes in Shopping Hours: The adjustment to working hours shifts the peak times for online shopping to between 11 AM and 6 PM, with the highest activity observed from 2 PM to 3 PM.

New Product Trials: Research indicates a heightened willingness among consumers to explore new products during Ramadan, with over 78 percent of survey participants expressing an interest in trying new brands.

Bargain Hunting: Offers and discounts are key drivers of consumer purchases during Ramadan, with over 95 percent of shoppers prioritizing affordability and indicating that discounts significantly influence their purchasing decisions.

Socially Responsible Purchasing: Reflecting Ramadan’s spirit of generosity, consumers are more likely to support businesses that engage in charitable activities and make donations, according to GoDaddy’s research.
